Dane County's Next Landfill and Sustainability Campus
Updated
Short answer
Dane County Waste & Renewables expects initial waste placement at its next landfill in summer or fall 2027, as part of a Sustainability Campus. In 2024 it chose Purple Cow Organics to compost food scraps, brush, leaves and yard waste under a contract running through 2029.
The department runs as an enterprise fund, paid for by the fees it charges rather than tax dollars, and sells renewable natural gas from landfill methane. For current rates see landfill rates.
