Short answer
Madison has three drop-off sites: 4602 Sycamore Ave (east), 402 South Point Rd (west) and 1504 Quann-Olin Parkway (central, opened April 11, 2026). Through December 3, 2026 they open Monday and Friday 7:30am to 2:30pm, Tuesday and Thursday 7:30am to 7pm and Saturday 9am to 4pm. Residents only, one trip a day, no more than a pickup bed or 5 x 8 trailer.

Rules
- City of Madison residents and taxpayers only, with proof.
- Contractors may not use the sites.
- One trip a day; the load must fit a standard pickup bed or a 5 x 8 foot trailer.
- Fee items need a sticker bought in advance if your recycling is collected privately.
- All sites close on city holidays and in severe weather.
What they take
Large items, appliances, electronics (free for residents), batteries, extra cardboard and recycling, Styrofoam, cooking oil, brush, yard waste, excess trash and, from June 1, 2026, select food scraps. Free wood mulch is only at Quann-Olin, whose narrow entrance is two-way.

Are Madison drop-off sites open on Saturday in winter?
No. From December 4, 2026 to spring 2027 they open weekdays except Wednesday, 7:30am to 2:30pm. The Dane County Landfill opens Saturday 8am to 10:45am.
